Hi. We’re so glad you’re interested in working together!

Now. Let’s find the best fit for us. Are you…

An Individual or Group?

Our volunteer food groups are part of the backbone of everything we do. Monthly groups of 3-6 people keep our guests nourished with the culinary creations of their choosing.

Individual and Group Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to serve at our Drop-In Center or explore opportunities to serve where you are?

I want in on the action at New Horizons.

I want to know how I can serve offsite – from my home or in my community.

Direct Service Volunteers

These volunteers attend the same morning or nightly session of Drop-In each week (e.g., every Monday night, every Thursday morning). During this two-hour period, they connect with youth in order to build relationships, help staff run programs smoothly, and help create a warm, safe space for youth to hang out and find the resources they need.

Morning volunteers are here for breakfast at 7:30AM and spend time with youth until around 9:30AM.
Evening volunteers arrive for pre-brief at 6:00PM and leave around 9:30PM.

Requires: application & training (provided), 3-12-month commitment (once weekly, 2-4 hours)

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.
Friday Laundry Help

We love offering shelter to youth each week, but it does create quite a laundry chore. If your group of 2-4 people would like to come help us wash the week's linens for the next week's shelter guests in our laundry facility, we'd love to have you.

Requires: no training or application.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.

Food Groups

Food groups purchase, prepare, and serve a meal to our guests at breakfast or dinner on the same day each month (e.g., cook dinner every fourth Wednesday night). They are responsible for all cooking & cleaning.

Morning Food Groups: 3 - 5 people, 7:00a-9:30a
Evening Food Groups: 4 - 6 people, 6p-8:30p

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.

Can't make a monthly commitment? No problem! It still helps us to keep an on-call list of groups willing to serve upon cancellations or absences. You'll be given at least one day's notice before you're asked to cook and are not required to be available.

Requires: one group member to have a King County Food Handler's Card. No NH training or application required.

Work Groups

At times we benefit from help keeping our large building clean & tidy. If you're interested in bringing your group to help us clean & organize our Drop-In Center, including sorting clothes, sweeping & mopping, disinfecting, etc., we'd love to have you! Keeping our space neatly organized helps our programs run smoothly.

Requires: No NH training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.

Woo! Yeah! So glad to have you to call on when we need you. Are you…

Food Group Individual Volunteer

Occasionally, 1-2 people are interested in serving a meal, but don't have enough people-power to create their own food group. If you'd like to serve on a food group, but don't have enough people to form a group, we're happy to add you to a list of folks to call when 1) a food group needs extra help, or 2) we have enough individuals interested to form their own food group.

Requires: No training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.

Admin Volunteers

On occasion, we need help with large mailings or other administrative tasks. If you'd like to volunteer to help out with stuffing/addressing envelopes, organizing office supplies, and other miscellaneous tasks, we'd love to have you.

Requires: No training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.
Facilities Work Groups

At times we benefit from help keeping our large building clean & tidy. If you're interested in bringing your group to help us clean & organize our Drop-In Center, including sorting clothes, sweeping & mopping, disinfecting, etc., we'd love to have you! Keeping our space neatly organized helps our programs run smoothly.

Requires: No training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org.

On-Call Food Groups

On-call food groups are those groups we can count on when monthly food groups aren't available to cook. Being on the on-call list doesn't mean you'll have to fill in when spots open up; it simply means we can call you to ask you to get a group together when there's an opening.

Requires: One group member to have a King County Food Handler's Card. No NH training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org to put your group on the call list.

So great! Thanks for desiring to serve youth no matter where you are.

Here are some options for serving with New Horizons in your community or from your home in creative ways.

We've partnered with Accelerator YMCA's Host Homes to offer you the opportunity to open your home to a young person who is vulnerable to becoming homeless or very close to getting off the streets and just needs a stable place to stay for a few months.

For more information on this program, watch the video, visit the Host Homes website, then fill out the interest form below to speak with someone about becoming a host.
