You are an integral part of young people’s success.

Our volunteers and partners are indispensable in our effort to provide the highest quality services to youth exiting the streets.

Hi. We’re so glad you’re interested in working together!

Though not required for every volunteer position, the best first step to getting involved at New Horizons is to attend a community tour. Use the form below to RSVP to the next tour, which occur every first Friday of the month at 10AM and every third Thursday of the month at 6PM.

Now. Let’s find the best fit for us. Are you…

Drop-In Volunteers

Drop-In Volunteers attend the same morning or nightly session of Drop-In each week (e.g., every Monday night, every Thursday morning). During this two-hour period, they connect with youth in order to build relationships, help staff run programs smoothly, and help create a warm, safe space for youth to hang out and find the resources they need.

Morning volunteers are here for breakfast at 7:30AM and spend time with youth until around 9:30AM.
Evening volunteers arrive for pre-brief at 6:00PM and leave around 9:30PM.

Requires: application & training, 12-month commitment

Interested? The first step is to attend a community tour. Fill out the form at the top of this page to get started, and include a note in the comment box that you're interested in becoming a morning or evening Drop-In volunteer! (Psst: the arrow below will take you back to the form).
Friday Laundry Help

We love offering shelter to youth each week, but it does create quite a laundry chore. If your group of 2-4 people would like to come help us wash the week's linens for the next week's shelter guests in our laundry facility, we'd love to have you.

Requires: no training or application.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org. (Psst: it can't hurt to take a community tour first! Use the arrow below to sign up for the next one on our contact form).

Shelter Volunteer (2-Hour Shift or Overnight)

Shelter Volunteers attend the same night of shelter each month (e.g., every third Tuesday). Young Adult Emergency Shelter volunteers are on shift from 9-11PM and provide assistance getting youth set up for a good night's sleep, including developing relationship and directing youth to personal care resources.

Nest volunteers assist overnight staff and build relationships with residents on weekends (Friday or Saturday nights) beginning at 9PM and staying until 7:30AM the following morning.

Requires: application & training

Interested? The first step is to take a community tour. Fill out the form above and make a note in the comment box that you're interested in becoming a YAES or Nest volunteer. (Psst: the arrow below will take you back up to the form).
Food Groups

Food groups purchase, prepare, and serve a meal to our guests at breakfast or dinner on the same day each month (e.g., cook dinner every fourth Wednesday night). They are responsible for all cooking & cleaning.

Morning Food Groups: 3 - 5 people, 7:00a-9:30a
Evening Food Groups: 4 - 6 people, 6p-8:30p

Currently, we have the following monthly food group openings.

- 1st Monday evening of every month
- 4th Monday evening of every month
- 4th Wednesday evening of every month

Can't fill one of these spots? No problem! It still helps us to keep an on-call list of groups willing to serve upon cancellations or absences. You'll be given at least one day's notice before you're asked to cook and are not required to be available.

Requires: one group member to have a King County Food Handler's Card. No NH training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org to put your group on the waitlist. (Psst: it can't hurt to take a community tour first! Use the arrow below to sign up for the next one on our contact form).

Work Groups

At times we benefit from help keeping our large building clean & tidy. If you're interested in bringing your group to help us clean & organize our Drop-In Center, including sorting clothes, sweeping & mopping, disinfecting, etc., we'd love to have you! Keeping our space neatly organized helps our programs run smoothly.

Requires: No NH training or application required.

Interested? Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org. (Psst: it can't hurt to take a community tour first! Use the arrow below to sign up for the next one on our contact form).

Food Group Individual Volunteer

Occasionally, 1-2 people are interested in serving a meal, but don't have enough people-power to create their own food group. If you'd like to serve on a food group, but don't have enough people to form a group, we're happy to add you to a list of folks to call when 1) a food group needs extra help, or 2) we have enough individuals interested to form their own food group.

Requires: No training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org. (Psst: it can't hurt to take a community tour first! Use the arrow below to sign up for the next one on our contact form).

Requires: No training or application required.

Interested? Email volunteerprograms@nhmin.org. (Psst: it can't hurt to take a community tour first! Use the arrow below to sign up for the next one on our contact form).
