This is Jayo.

A little more than a year ago, Jayo was unemployed with no place to stay at night. Thanks to the support of monthly donors like the Home Team, he got a bed in The Nest, our 12-bed transitional shelter.

He began working as a Street Bean apprentice and eventually found a second job with a local retailer. Having a bed to come home to every night and a community that believed in him didn’t give Jayo goals – it just made achieving his goals a reality.

He’s now living in his own apartment and working two jobs, using his free time to write and record his own music. Because The Nest was a stepping stone off the streets and into a new season of life, he no longer has to spend his nights on the streets – he simply goes home.

This is the kind of story the Home Team makes possible.

What Home Team Members Are Saying

  • We give because New Horizons' mission is focused on a very vulnerable group of youth that need an advocate and friend.

  • New Horizons fills a void for many young people on the streets navigating life without a family support system.

  • Youth programs have always been of interest to us. We give because young people face many challenges today even when they are in stable family situations, but especially when families are dysfunctional or not present.

One dollar a day. One bed for one person.

It’s really that simple.

There are over 800 youth in Seattle who have no place to call home on a daily basis. The Home Team works to ensure one young person at a time will have a safe, warm place to sleep at New Horizons in The Nest. Members give $30 a month (or more) to come alongside more young people and lay the foundation for long-term sustainability.

How Youth Have Been Impacted in the Nest

  • I have been through a lot and continue to go through a lot, but this shelter, having somewhere I can safely go at night, is one of the biggest blessings I could've asked for.

  • The Nest provides structure, which motivates you to keep working on your goals. I like that I can relax on the couch, work on my music, watch movies from time to time, get a shower whenever I want.

  • My life is different now [after graduating from The Nest]. I have housing and am moving forward as an adult.
