Unless otherwise specified, you’re invited to any and all events and trainings we put on this calendar! We’ll keep it updated with events around the community (most of which are free) that seek to educate and inform anyone interested in learning more about youth homelessness.
Want to learn more about the basics of youth homelessness, how New Horizons works with youth experiencing homelessness, and get a tour of our shelter & Drop-In Center? Join us for a community tour every first Friday of the month at 10am and every third Thursday of the month at 6pm.

The Ropes: Understanding and Engaging Youth Homelessness addresses youth and young adult homelessness in a hands-on, three-hour training. Here you will find out about the causes and characteristics of youth homelessness, the nature of street life and culture, and tools for engaging with these at-risk youth and young adults. This is a great training for any new staff, new volunteers, or anyone interested in learning more about youth homelessness.

In this training, you will learn to recognize symptoms of conflict, the stages of crisis and how to be more competent in addressing them, and you will gain concrete tools (what to say, where to stand, etc.) to resolve conflict safely. Includes role-playing where participant get hands on time to de-escalate conflicts.
